General Description of the Role
The Manager, Security, Investigations, and Risk Management leads the enterprise security, investigations, brand protection and security risk management agenda for J. Wray & Nephew. The role protects company profitability and continuity by developing risk-based strategies, strengthening governance, overseeing investigations and ensuring the function operates with the professionalism, controls and capability required by the business.
Operating Context
J. Wray & Nephew operates a vertically integrated, multi-site manufacturing, warehousing, distribution and commercial environment. The security and loss prevention function must protect people, products, brands, physical assets, regulatory certifications and business continuity across Kingston, New Yarmouth, Appleton, JSAERE and off-premises warehouses, while partnering with Supply Chain, Finance, HR, Legal, Commercial, Quality, EHS, external security providers and law enforcement.

Performance Indicators - Criteria
- Product, asset and cash losses are contained within agreed limits and loss-related incidents trend downward.
- Security, investigations, AEO, Food Defense and related compliance requirements are effectively governed and audit-ready.
- Security improvement projects, risk mitigation actions and investigations are completed within agreed timelines, scope and budget.
- People leadership, communication, coaching and performance management across the function are consistently effective.
- Law enforcement, contractor, internal stakeholder and cross-functional partnerships deliver measurable protection of people, product and brand.
Key Roles and Responsibilities
Risk Management and Governance
- Lead the enterprise security risk assessment process and ensure high-impact risks are prioritized using data, incident trends and stakeholder input.
- Lead the yearly insurance review process, own the relationship with the local insurance brokers (and global partners where necessary), manage the claim process as it relates to non-personnel related incidents, and suggest improvements to support an overall risk management framework for company assets.
- Develop mitigation strategies for threats affecting physical assets, people, products, intellectual property, supply chain integrity and business continuity.
- Estimate potential financial and operational consequences of key risks and align mitigation plans with asset owners.
- Own the security governance framework, policies, procedures, reporting cadence, control testing and continuous improvement roadmap.
- Partner with Finance, Supply Chain, EHS, Quality, Legal, HR and business leaders to embed loss prevention practices into day-to-day operations.
- Act as the BU representative for the business continuity plan, ensure the plan is kept up to date and actively manage the BU priorities when the incident response team is activated.
Security Strategy and Operational Oversight
- Set the strategic direction for physical security, operational controls, electronic security systems, guard force management and security technology.
- Oversee protection of all JWN locations, including manufacturing, distilleries, fields, warehouses, administrative offices, distribution areas and sponsored events.
- Ensure the Manager, Security maintains effective access control, CCTV, key control, perimeter protection, seal management, incident response and emergency security protocols.
- Monitor security contractor performance, service levels, cost effectiveness and compliance with site rules and company expectations.
- Advocate for technology-enabled monitoring, analytics and automation to reduce manual exposure and improve control effectiveness.
Investigations, Brand Protection and Incident Management
- Set investigation standards for theft, fraud, misconduct, procedure breaches, security breaches, counterfeit/illicit rum matters and other loss events.
- Ensure investigations are properly documented, evidence is preserved, root causes are identified and corrective actions are tracked to closure.
- Oversee partnerships with Police, Customs, Excise, Tax Administration, SIB (Special Investigation Branch) and other state agencies in relation to illicit/counterfeit rum trade and brand protection.
- Ensure incident learnings are translated into updated controls, training, policy reinforcement and risk mitigation plans.
Regulatory, Certification and Compliance Oversight
- Provide leadership oversight for AEO, Food Defense, Food Fraud, QHSE-related security controls, local regulatory requirements and relevant internal/external audits.
- Ensure site and supplier risk assessments, internal audits, contractor orientations and policy enforcement mechanisms are completed and documented.
- Maintain audit readiness and escalate certification risks to Finance, Supply Chain and relevant process owners.
- Lead the company’s emergency response as it relates to:
- Disaster preparation
- Guard activity
- Contractor safety meetings
- Joint Safety Committee

People, Performance and Budget Management
- Lead, coach and develop direct reports, ensuring objectives are cascaded, performance is reviewed and capability gaps are addressed.
- Build a communication rhythm that improves responsiveness, accountability and stakeholder confidence in the function.
- Own functional budget planning, cost tracking and business cases for security projects, security maintenance and CAPEX recommendations.
- Develop succession, capability and training plans for the function, including contract security personnel where applicable.
Authority
- Design and approve security risk management frameworks, standards and operating procedures within delegated authority.
- Approve investigation protocols, escalation criteria, reporting standards and corrective action tracking mechanisms.
- Recommend security technology, contractor, maintenance and CAPEX investments to protect assets and certifications.
- Escalate significant security, investigation, compliance and business continuity matters to the Senior Director, Finance and relevant executives.

Experience Required
- 8-10 years of rounded experience in corporate security, loss prevention, risk management, investigations, law enforcement, military or related field.
- 5 years in a leadership role managing teams, contractors and complex cross-functional security issues.
- Experience with manufacturing, supply chain, distribution, regulated environments, brand protection and security certifications is preferred.
Education / Professional Qualifications
- Undergraduate degree in Business Administration, Management Studies, Security Management, Risk Management, Engineering or related discipline.
- Professional certification such as CPP, PSP, PCI, CFE, enterprise risk management or equivalent is preferred.
- Training in investigations, evidence handling, emergency management, project management and QHSE/security compliance is an asset.

Working Conditions
- On call as required to respond to emergency, security, investigation or business continuity situations.
- Frequent site visits across production plants, farms, warehouses, offices, distribution facilities and security checkpoints.
- May be exposed to heat, noise, dust, fumes, hazardous chemicals, debris, hostile situations and areas requiring PPE.
- May be required to work outside normal working hours, weekends or public holidays depending on business need.
