Role Context & Mission

We’re looking for a Visitor Center Manager to lead one of the most respected brand homes on the Kentucky Bourbon Trail. The Wilderness Trail Visitor Center is considered to be one of the best run consumer facing sites on the Kentucky Bourbon Trails (according to AnyRoads data). On an ongoing basis, the Visitors Center Manager is responsible for planning and managing all functions and operations of the Wilderness Trail Visitor Center. Its main objective is to attract leisure visitors to the area and provide guests a unique, enjoyable and educational experience about the Wilderness Trail Brand and the Bourbon world. In addition to this, the incumbent directly manages the gift shop, visitor centre staff, events, tours and needs of daily visitors. The role reports to the Global Marketing Director, American Whiskey, based in New York, working closely with the Wilderness Trail founders.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage the daily operations of the Wilderness Trail Visitors Center.  Ensure a high level of customer service is provided to guests. Implement strategies to enhance facility and services.
  • Develop, purchase and maintain retail merchandise.  Develop marketing and pricing strategies for retail merchandise.  Maintain inventory.  Make contact with potential vendors/manage global vendors to maintain retail inventory that is desired by consumers. Maintain close contact with Brand Management to ensure consistency of look & feel of merchandise developed.
  • Complete all daily check out accounting procedures and financial reports.  Process month-end close reports and related financials by established deadlines.
  • Achieve all financial objectives through budget adherence. In collaboration with the Global Marketing Director, Investigate, propose and Develop event opportunities and selling strategies that will positively affect sales/increase food traffic.
  • Manage all Marketing sponsored events within the Kentucky area, coordinating events with plant operations
  • Assist Founders, Master Distillers, as well as designated company spokespersons with local events.
  • Participate in industry and tourism events. Serve on local community bourbon/ tourism committees to promote the Visitors Center as well as the Distillery and the entire production area.
  • Act as a local support to Brand Marketing (local and international markets) in all matters pertaining marketing activities.
  • Recruit, schedule, supervise, train and develop all VC personnel. Coordinate food service activities and VIP visits.
  • Occasionally required to serve as company tour guide. 
  • Stay abreast of laws regarding liquor retailing and operations of a tasting room.
  • Adhere to and promote quality, environmental stewardship, and general health and safety.  
  • Integrate Campari America’s core values into daily operations and activities.
  • Other duties as assigned

 

Qualifications, Experience & Skills

 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Communications, Hospitality Management or related field – preferred, not mandatory
  • At least 5 years of experience in Tasting Rooms, Retail, or related customer service industry, including cash register and cash management experience. 
  • Experience in the Wine and Spirits industry a plus.
  • Excellent people management skills, with experience in personnel recruitment, training and employee relations management.
  • Strong leadership, problem solving and organizational skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; comfortable in presenting to wide audiences and Senior Management.
  • Ability to represent the organization to customers, the public, government, and other external sources.
  • Must work easily, courteously and confidently with the public, and possess a friendly, open attitude with a willingness to treat all guests with equal graciousness.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite and Point-of-Sale software.
  • Analytical skills, in particular gathering data from a wide variety of sources, and presenting it in formats suitable for a wide variety of audiences.
  • Knowledge of administrative and clerical procedures and systems such as word processing, managing files and records, designing forms, and other office procedures

OTHER REQUIREMENTS

  • Able to lift and carry product cases (30/40 lbs)
  • Able to climb stairs and walk up and down hills on tours
  • Able to work after hours, as well as on Saturdays and Sundays, as needed
