General Description of the Role

 

Campari’s business in Jamaica is a vertically integrated ‘cane to cup’ operation, beginning with the production of the raw materials and ending with the distribution and sale of the finished product for local and export markets. This makes it one of the most diverse and complex entities within the Campari Group.
J. Wray &Nephew Ltd. exports its manufactured products to inter-company and other customers’ sites overseas. The Finished Goods Warehouse (FGW) has overall responsibility for customer order delivery and shipment fulfillment while the export freight function, supervised by the Team Leader, controls all system, logistics, documentation and coordinating activities related to exporting product to customers. The function has a significant impact on the profitability of the business in areas such as revenue and customer satisfaction.


The Team Lead, Export Freight provides supervision of the export freight processes which ensures the delivery of finished cased goods and bulk liquid to the Kingston Sea or Airports in a timely and cost-effective manner. The mission of the position is to enhance customer service levels and support the achievement of sales targets by effectively planning and directing the export freight processes.

Key Roles and Responsibilities

Strategy – Planning

  • Contributes to the development of the FGW strategies and KPIs for all export freight activities in alignment with the overall Logistics Department strategies

  • Develops effective work processes to guide the effective and efficient functioning of the Export Freight Coordinators


Export Freight Operations

  • Ensures export order freight requirements are received, processed and tracked to ensure delivery is met in keeping with customers’ requirements.

  • Develops and maintains relationships with shipping company representatives, Brokers, Freight Forwarders, Governmental Agencies, key Customs officials etc. to be able to garner assistance when needed.

  • Liaises with the Customs Broker, providing shipment information, receiving and dispatching pre-shipment and post-shipment documents and requesting Customs document lodgment confirmation.

  • Ensure the team prepares and dispatches invoices and relevant documents to customers relating to shipment/Purchase Order and insurance copy is sent to the Administrative Assistant for payment.

  • Ensures the team requests seals from the Loss Prevention Department and from the shipping company (via the Customs Broker). Logs and secures all seals and assigns seals to shipments when required.

  • Ensure timely system update and transaction processes for the Transportation Module for all Intercompany warehouse CIF, CFR & DAP shipment.

  • Prepares monthly shipment reports.

  • Ensures the team prepares and circulates weekly Loading Schedules and to ensure that requirements outside of the schedule are accommodated wherever possible

  • Ensures the team liaises with the Haulage Company for the delivery and movement of empty containers and bulk tanks as per assignment by the respective Tank providers.

  • Assist with Freight/cost negotiation to ensure cost efficient rates are received where necessary.

  • Tracks freight related costs and provides budget variance reports that identifies the drivers for budget variances.

  • Identifies opportunities for cost reduction, improved efficiency and higher levels of customer satisfaction.


Service Delivery

  • Supports the development of service delivery systems and culture which is efficient and effective in addressing and resolving external and internal customer issues

  • Monitors the turnaround time, accuracy and efficiency of delivery of containers and tanks to the sea or airports in accordance with the department’s standards


EHS Stewardship

  • Observes and maintains strict adherence to established Quality, Health, Food Safety, Safety and Environmental policies and practices

  • Monitors the implementation and adherence to safety measures and programs in conjunction with the Quality, Food safety and EHS Teams and in keeping with the company’s policies


People – Performance

  • Supervises a team of 4 Freight Coordinators

  • Drives the performance of the team by cascading the departmental objectives, defining personal performance targets and appraising the performance of direct reports during and at the end of the performance management cycle

  • Builds the capacity of direct reports and the team through consistent performance feedback and coaching

  • Collaborates with the FG Logistics Manager, other Team Leaders and the HR Business Partner to identify and implement learning and development initiatives to close competency gaps within the team

  • Provides leadership in the building of a culture within the department which exemplifies the “Campari Way” of doing business


Compliance

  • Tracks the compliance of the operations with relevant legal and statutory requirements and procedures.

  • Monitors the establishment of efficient work processes and reviews these processes, as necessary, with a view to achieving continuous improvement.

 

Education & Experience

  • Undergraduate degree in Business Administration or equivalent

  • 3-5+ years' experience in a supervisory role in a Logistics, distribution or manufacturing or environment
