General Description of the Role
The Commercial Analyst will be responsible for the provision of financial analysis and decision support to the marketing team, actively assisting in Marketing spend analysis, brand planning and new product development. Would be the initial point of finance support for the Marketing team.
Key Responsibilities and Activities
Market Share Analysis
- Analyse and report market share performance and the key activities in market and evaluation thereof.
- Provide insights into the probable cause of market share movements at total market and category level.
Marketing Spend Management
- Develop the Marketing spend budget in conjunction with the Marketing team
- Review and tracking of Budget Marketing spend
Selling and General Administrative Spend Management
- Develop SG&A budget in conjunction with the various Senior leads across Australia
- Review and tracking of Budget spend
Strategic Planning
- Working with the Marketing Director, develop an analytical framework that reviews the Australian alcoholic beverage market, tracks competitor/product behavior so that emerging trends and growth opportunities are identified
NPD commercialization:
- Developing the financial analysis to assess viability of the new proposed products for the market.
- Coordination with various stakeholders including marketing, PSC, commercial to bring together the financial implications of proposed product spec, build price chains and factor supply chain implications.
- Critical evaluation of inputs, challenging and validating cross functional inputs.
- Setting a strong post evaluation and exit strategy matrix and threshholds.
Adhoc finance support
- Development of automation tools to assist decision making within marketing. For eg: Size of opportunity assessment for innovation, various conversion tools etc.
Reporting relationship
The Commercial Analyst reports to the Commercial Manager who in turn reports to the Finance Director
Experience Required & skills
- Minimum 5 years’ experience, ideally working closely with Sales and Marketing/ Supply chain in a commercial capacity
- Degree in Commerce/Accounting/CPA
- Experience in Liquor industry preferred , FMCG essential
- Proven ability to work across functions, carry out data analysis, identify trends, and develop commercial options to address commercial issues.
- Ability to challenge status quo
- Advanced excel skills a must
- Good working knowledge of SAP BI advantageous
- Ability to interrogate Aztec advantageous
