General Description of the Role

  • Manage and implement safety, health, environment, and sustainability systems that maximize the benefits and competitive advantages while minimizing the risks and ensuring the safety/health of the workers and the protection of the environment.
  • Ensure the compliance with local regulations, Campari global and regional guidelines, appropriate ISO or relevant international standards and sustainability commitments.

  • Identify opportunities for us to operate in a manner that reduces risks.
  • Adapt and implement the regional/global mandatory initiatives/guidelines/strategy into the local context.
  • Manage the environment and sustainability impacts of our operations with the goal of ensuring compliance with regulations and minimizing impact to the environment and natural resources.
  • Work with company leadership to ensure that our operations are developed accordingly with the government regulations.
  • Consistently evaluate the opportunities and risks presented by plant operations/modifications/expansions, potential legislation and other factors and provide strategic advice to company leadership.
  • Drive a safety and sustainability culture that is based upon capability building, employee empowerment and engagement, risk assessment and mitigation and continuous improvement.

 

Key Responsibilities and Activities

  • Identify and work to implement solutions to reduce GHG emissions (scope 1 and 2) and landfilled waste streams.
  • Develop, implement and manage site-wide safety programs, ensuring effective health and safety practices, hazard management, and risk control.
  • Lead and develop the safety and environment brigade.
  • Manage CapEx, OpEx, and Strat-plan related to EHS&S (new equipment, process redesign, legal requirements, etc.).
  • Conduct job hazard evaluations and analysis and put in place appropriate risk control policies and procedures.
  • Lead and facilitate regular safety inspections to identify at-risk behaviors, conditions and opportunities for improvement.
  • Develop and implement employee-based EHS&S initiatives to build employee engagement and empowerment.
  • Facilitate the EHS committee activities to ensure employee commitment and engagement.
  • Support organizational and operational changes through the evaluation of safety and health risks and the provision of risk controlling solutions.
  • Lead incident (injury, environmental and asset damage) investigations, identify causal factors, and drive implementation of the corrective actions.
  • Implement all the initiatives required for moving forward into the EHS&S Strategy.
  • Participate actively in all the regional/global meetings required by their direct & functional leaders.
  • Manage all environmental sustainability projects across the site.
  • Manage the tracking and reporting of all company, local, provincial, and federal based energy, water waste and greenhouse gas (GHG) compliance activities.
  • Evaluate safety & environmental best practices and make recommendations that drive competitive advantage and/or improve performance through the capital budgeting process to implement.
  • Collaborate with Engineering and other Campari functions on the development and implementation of structures, equipment and production equipment to ensure compliance to safety & environmental strategies.
  • Coordinate the “Security” activities: External security team + security tools management (cameras, etc.).
  • Manage all environmental and safety tools/standards inside the facilities (machinery safeguarding, work at height, PIV, spills, etc.).
  • Develop and manage the training plan related to EHS&S.
  • Conduct periodical assessments related to EHS&S.
  • Identify and work to implement solutions to reduce GHG emissions (scope 1 and 2) and landfilled waste streams.
  • Any other responsibilities as assigned by direct or functional leaders.

 

Training & Development:

  • Develop, implement and facilitate programs to properly train and embed EHS&S capabilities across the site.
  • Maintain tracking documentation of all EHS&S training activities on site.
  • Provide ad hoc coaching and direction to drive a positive and values based EHS&S culture.
  • Ensure site leaders are equipped with the ability to coach and develop EHS&S practices within their teams.

 

Cost Control and Project Management:

  • Identify opportunities to reduce costs while maintaining EHS&S standards.
  • Manage all related EHS&S projects, coordinating effectively across functional areas and ensuring on-time, on-target, at or below budget delivery of scheduled outcomes.

Internal: Regional HS, Regional SE, Supply Chain Management, Manufacturing, Engineering, Quality, Procurement, Logistics, HR, Finance.

External: Suppliers, Government and regulatory entities, EHS&S Professional Societies, Industry Trade Groups, Co-Packers, Consultants, Contractors, etc.

 

QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS:

Education

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Workplace Health and Safety or related field.
  • Specialty in Environment and Sustainability.

 

Experience

  • Minimum 7 years of experience leading EHS&S , ideally in a food or beverage manufacturing environment.
  • Experience in beverage alcohol would be a plus.

 

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

  • Strong knowledge in Health and Safety, environment and sustainability standards, regulations and legislation.
  • Familiarity with consensus standards and international standards (ie ISO 45001).
  • Ability to develop process and procedures and implement across a number of functions to full adoption.
  • Strong project management skills and a proven history of delivering on objectives.
  • Strong facilitation skills and interpersonal skills with the ability to work collaborative with others.
