General Description of the Role

The Electro-Mechanical Technician will have the responsibility of maintaining and repairing all types of electrical/electronic equipment at the Wild Turkey Distillery facility.  This will include, but will not be limited to, all areas of production (Bottling, Granary, Distillery, Dry House, Fermenter Room, Mill Room and Boiler Room), the Warehouse Department (Warehouses, Cistern Room, Dump Room and Tank Room) and all other physical plant buildings and equipment. 

 

Mission/Objectives

The Electro-Mechanical Technician will ensure all systems will be continually maintained in a manner optimal to have a direct impact on efficiency, production quality, safety, and the environment.

 

Key Responsibilities and Activities

  • Be able to understand the operational limits and safety aspects associated with each piece of equipment (pumps, valves, electrical distribution eq., electrical control systems, etc.) in the facility.
  • Must be able to diagnose, troubleshoot and repair electrical/electronic devices using various types of meters, hand held devices and lap top/desk top computers.
  • Be able to correlate each piece of equipment, line and device in the field with its representation in schematic diagrams.
  • Monitor, maintain, and make repairs to the Gas Boiler to include water testing, capturing readings, monitoring operation, reporting nonconformities to a supervisor, and performing PM’s as required.
  • Maintain all other equipment related to the Boiler house operation including but not limited to conveyors, pumps, valves, storage equipment, etc.
  • Start up, operate, and monitor the Deaerator tank, feed water system, RO unit, and water softener
  • Be able to disassemble pumps and properly reassemble, adjust, set the seal and confirm proper operation as per manufactures instructions.
  • Inspect lines for leaks (products, air, and steam) and equipment for operational condition
  • Complete and submit repair orders for maintenance work in the Megamation system.
  • Be able to correlate each piece of equipment, line, and device in the field with its representation on the computer screen.
  • Work with appropriate internal stakeholders to drive continuous improvement and/or to resolve quality risks when identified.
  • In coordination with the site EH&S Manager, ensure the distillery operations comply with GMP practices and site safety rules.
  • Comply with all PPE safety requirements for assigned work area.
  • Adhere to and promote a safe working environment.  This includes keeping all materials, supplies, tools and any other production related items in their place.  Adherence to 5S (Sort, Set in Order, Shine, Standardize, Sustain) standards is expected of the Electrical Technician.
  • Be able to safely conduct a lock-out/tag-out procedure on each piece of equipment, line and device in the field.
  • Be able to recognize and communicate the risks associated with each of the products, chemicals, pieces of equipment, and electrical devices located throughout the facility.
  • Comply with all GMP, ISO and food safety standards.  Participate in safety meetings as designated.
  • Shall implement continuous improvement actions to close gaps of KPI’s or increase productivity as needed.  Participate in Root Cause Problem Solving (RCPS) to solve problems by attempting to identify and correct the root causes of events, as opposed to simply addressing their symptoms.
  • Must be able to efficiently and effectively troubleshoot and detect any electrical deficiencies/failures in the equipment.
  • Perform any other duties as assigned by management.  This also includes working in other functional areas to cover absences or relief during peak periods or otherwise to balance the workload.

 

Experience Required

  • Must have experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Have a working knowledge of Rockwell DCS system, Device Net interface, and PLCs.
  • Have a working knowledge of the National Electrical Code.
  • Have a working knowledge of pneumatics and hydraulics.

 

Education / Professional Qualifications

  • Possess high school diploma or GED
  • Industrial Maintenance Electrician Degree or Electrical License
  • Must pass the NOCTI test
  • Forklift Certified

  • Be able to properly size and install electrical service and control wiring using both regular and classified (hazardous area) conduit and wiring.
  • Be able to cut, thread and fit conduit.
  • Must be able to do material take-offs to facilitate the ordering of repair parts and equipment.
  • Must be able to efficiently and effectively use a volt-ohm meter, megohm meters, ammeters and other electronic meters and instruments.
  • Basic understanding of Pneumatics
  • Basic understanding of Hydraulic systems
  • Basic understanding of shop equipment (Lathe, Mill, Grinders)
  • Basic rigging
  • Welding skills
  • Mechanical Alignment Techniques
  • Motor/Gearbox installation and alignment
  • Change out pump seals

 

Essential Job Functions

Physical Requirements:

  • Sitting, standing and walking for extended periods of time;
  • Climbing multiple flights of stairs;
  • Climbing ladders;
  • Frequently lifting a minimum of 40 lbs
